Serbia is a landlocked country that shares borders with Hungary to the north, Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro to the south. It also claims a border with Albania through the disputed region of Kosovo. One of the biggest cities in Southeast Europe is Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. Serbia’s population was 7.2 million as of the 2011 census, excluding Kosovo.

To support students—both domestic and international—in their pursuit of higher education, Serbia offers a variety of scholarship opportunities. International students can apply for scholarships from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technological Development of the Serbian government; additional scholarship programs are financed by bilateral agreements with certain countries. Additionally, scholarships are often awarded by Serbian institutions based on exceptional distinction, financial need, or academic achievement.
